My ignition key was stole today.

My ignition key was stole out of ignition at Dollar General today parked at front doors in my handy capped spot. Had to have it towed home just now, Got thief on video but police arnt to hopeful ill get key back,,

Can i get the cylinder out without damaging the cylinder housing or column with a screw driver some how to get it in the "run" position to gain access to push pin? Or do i drill out push pin with cylinder in off position?

That is a bummer.

I've got a '92 that turns the ignition switch with out a key (cause it old and busted).

Maybe Jimmy it 'til the mechanism slips?

Sometimes mine catches like it "won't work with out the key" but, a little finess with the steering wheel while knocking the switch gets it where it needs. A narrow flat head should help, as long as your not trying to hammer it into the ignition switch.

No its not gonna slip or jimmy, its pretty tight and solid. I know beating a flat head into it sounds kinna dangerous tho.

Mobile locksmith can make a key for you
Call and tell them location, year and model and they can quote a price

Or you could take out one of the door locks, assuming it used same key, and take that to a locksmith, you would need a title or proof of ownership, most likely.

Only way to change ignition cylinder without the correct key is to drill it out
So weight that cost against mobile locksmith cost


And what other keys were taken?
Was it just the single key in the truck, or were there other keys on the same ring?

Ford keeps those records going back 6 years. GFL with a 91.

Get a pick set or call a lock smith.

Then consider having more than one copy of the ignition key and not leaving the key in the ignition while you leave the vehicle unattended.

Solved kinna.

My 1968 f600 hd key went strait in and flipped right over to start.
i was & still are so happy i may need to change my pants again.


I still wanna replace cylinder tho,, feels alotte tighter to turn now, dont see a lock pin hole, all i see is two screws bottom both sides half inch from wheel. Ill figure that out, my oem replacement shows an electrical connector attached to cylinder, anyone know any tips on this one pictured?

You can see the pin in that picture. The wire is resting against it on the far right—it may help you locate it on the lock housing.

i see the pin on the new one,, i ment i didnt see the access hole to it on column cover.

If you don't have the key, the access to pin hole won't matter, it is only in position when key is in and turned to RUN

I would at least call a mobile locksmith to see what they would charge to make a new key, or TWO, lol.
Because getting out the cylinder "the hard way" can damage the whole mechanism and then you have the cost of that added to the new cylinder cost and you still don't have Door Keys if you ever did want to lock the truck, or accidentally locked it

DIY is great if it saves you time and money, but sometimes it does neither, lol.
