S I have a 1999 Ford Ranger 4x4 4.0L automatic trans.and it doesn't shift into gears right, let me explain. I'm getting in my truck yesterday and I was going to the store, when I shift out of park, it shifts fine all the way to 2, but doemst shift to low gear, then when shifting back up threw the other gears like D or N or R, the shifter gets real lose, then when I get it up to P, I tryto put it in P, its still in reverse and I have to slam the shifter up to get or to shift into park! What the heck?!? Can someone Help me with this? Is the shifter cable stretched? Or is it the shifter on the steering column? Or is it the Black thing on the side of the transmission where the other side of the cable is connected to shift it?

Depending on what the exact problem is you might need either a laxative or more fiber.

I would check the linkage first. Cables usually don't stretch overnight.
