so as of December of 25' I now have 4 first gen rangers. 3 super cabs and standard cab with a long bed.
Bought the green 88' xlt 2wd/AT from a local guy who bought it new in Va, moved to Ca, and then back home to Ny. Took me 4 years to convince him to sell. Saved everything, the tin caps that would rust off after being overtightened in film canisters, the "Ford Warranty Card" with a copy of the VIN in an aluminum strip, receipts for repairs, milage log, you name it, he had it.
The 86' xl 2wd 5 speed long bed, runs funny. I traded a beater I bought to flip, and a 5 hour drive into Pa (my cat went for the trip too lol)
The lifted 86' xlt 4x4 with a 302, C6, and 35's was traded for my Yamaha Blaster. i have a little history on this truck too. It obviously had been gone through at one point. shaved front signals and door handles. Those dopey Altezza clear lensed taillights, clear front signals, the 2-tone paint. It was bouncing around Ct for a bit (wiring issues that couldn't be figured out, what a shock...) before coming to Long Island Ny. ABSOLUTE MESS. Someone cut holes in the bed floor, used wood to mitigate the corrugation of the bed floor, to add a dual bar roll bar with lights. Household wiring. Received it with the motor half torn apart, so I swapped one I had on the shelf in, but the further i looked into the truck the worse it got. Brake lines passing through holes in the frame, cut wires EVERYWHERE.
The 92' xlt 4x4/5spd/4.0 super cab was picked up running and driving for $250 (initially i was only interested in buying the venting 1/4 windows) and a 6 hour ride into Pa. Since I was heading out so deep, I went another 3 hours away into Va picked up a long bed for another project down the road, made 4 other stops on my way back to Ny and picked up a bench seat, a set of venting 1/4 windows, a pair of doors, and one more thing that I cannot remember. 912 miles in one day.
nice reminder that I am not 25 anymore
The 92' will become my daily driver. Using the green cab and bed from the 88'
I have a fever dream of building a crew cab long bed out of the two 86' truck frames/cabs. I've seen people make the crew cab, but not with the long bed.
The 88' 2wd frame is going to be a toy WAAAYY down the line. I do already have a Mazda Miata rear subframe for the rear suspension mock up. It will be getting a mustang II front crossmember as well.
Once I section off the rear of the lifted 86' to accept the rear of the 86' long bed frame, I can use the good section from the lifted 86' super cab on the rear of the 92' daily.
Lots of moving parts and things going on, working FT job, while running my own small shop on the side. Also in the middle of fixing up the mother in laws house to be sold.
