My Factory 4.56 gears look like 4.10

So I just bought my first ranger last week, 99 4wd 4.0 5speed supercab. As I'm going through all the usual things that one goes through when they buy a used rig I discover that the rear R&P has a 10 41 stamp on it. Per my experience with Dana axles this tells me that the gears are 4.10 and not 4.56 per the tech library. So now there's a few things I'm considering.

1. The PO swapped out the rear axle.
2. The PO regeared the axle.
3. Ford doesn't use similar gear stamping designation as Spicer so I should just forget about how sick I am and bust out the floorjack & jackstands and do a tooth count on the r&p.

Why is this a concern to me? Because I'm suspicious by nature and if the front is geared 4.56 the drivetrain is going to bind. I could pull the front diff pan and check the gear stamping but I'd rather leave it alone if I could satisfy my concern about the rear.

So my question is how does Ford stamp their R&P to designate the ratio?

Cheers,
Joe

Factory ford gearing only goes to 4.10 if memory serves me right. Is it an 8.8?

Factory 4.56 rear ends are unicorns in the us. You have 4.10s.

Yea it's an 8.8 & I can live with 4.10, now I don't see a need to pop off the front cover.

Thanks.

You could always just put it in 4wd drive and give her hell. If it binds on pavement they don't match.

My uncle drove a jeep with unmatched diffs for years. You only used 4 wd drive when you were Capital H (HUNG UP!!)

But yeah sounds like your 4.10 /4.10

Where did you get the idea that your stock truck came with 4.56 gears?

I see "410" on your pinion, as well as "4'0" on your ring gear (assuming the ' is the top of the "1" that didn't get stamped fully into the gear).

Rumors do exist there were factory 4.56 gears (chassis cab fleet trucks reportedly), but I've yet to see confirmation of their actual existence myself.

Ive been wanting to find a factory 4.10 LSD rear end for my truck for a while..one of these days Ill start the search.
