My Explorer can't decide what trim level it is

Apparently in 1995 only, Ford had an Expedition trim level for the Explorer Sport only. This package was meant to be the equal of the Eddie Bauer. They have all the same features and are supposed to look the same...painted fender flares, two tone paint, Eddie Bauer wheels, gold or gray bumpers, etc...

Well today I took my Explorer to the dealer that a friend of mine works at for an oil change. When the VIN was entered in the computer, it came back as being an Expedition model, even though it doesn't look the part at all. My Explorer has black fender flares, black rocker trim, black bumpers, a single tone paint job, and basic XLT wheels, all of it 100% original. However, on the inside it does appear to be an Expedition model...everything is power, the seats are the nicest you could get (minus leather), it has the high series console, and it has Control Trac (auto 4WD). I guess either some sort of mixup happened during assembly, or maybe it was an odd ball special order. It was in a fleet when it was new, so the special order idea is possible.

I guess if Explorers ever develop any collector value, mine will be the shit, lol. Anyone else get an oddball vehicle like this?

My RX-7 didn't know what year it was. Door panel placard said 1990, VIN decoded 1991 and some times when I went to a shop they'd put 1989.

This is what a 1995 Explorer Expedition should look like...

Notice the painted trim, two tone paint, 3 spoke Eddie Bauer wheels, etc...

And here is mine...

Black trim, one tone, XLT wheels...however, it does seem to have all of the functional content of the Expedition package...fog lights, power everything, high series console, etc...

If it was a fleet truck they probably just wanted the interior upgrades for long drives and didn't want the exterior appearance upgrades that wouldn't really do much.

Is that a Ford photo? I always found it odd that they seem like they came sagging in the rear from the factory.

Yes, it is a Ford photo. Sports only have a monoleaf in the rear, at least second gen ones do, so they tend to sag.

I think that feature goes back to the BII's, my parents '94 4dr just settled below level 2-3 years ago. The only reason I mentioned it was the one in Ford photo already looks like it is sagging.

i wonder if the nerfbar/running boards made any of a difference.

i think it looks like it sags because the way the wheel wells are shaped a bit different. the front seems to be cut more oval where as the rear looks more round.

i used to have a 1998.5 Audi A4 which had parts that didnt match the 1998 model. kinda wierd.
