My Explorer axle into '97 Ranger project

Got most everything done except for connecting the emergency brake and brake lines. I'm going to see if an Explorer Sport emergency brake cable will work. Also, I need to go back to the wrecking yard to get an Explorer brake line for the axle.

im in the same situation right now! i hate havin to go back for the rest cuz these guys might act like theyve never seen me before and try to charge me more for the e-brake cables!

I made an adapter out of some of the old clip parts, a few nuts, some strip steel, and some allthread to hook the Ex cables to the stock p-brake cable.

Also, made this bracket (you may need to go around the leaf hanger on a Ranger a bit differently, but should give you some ideas)

Yo,
To clarify, i was reffering to the actual brake line, not the e-brake. I know some guys go with extended, some relocate the hard line to the center where there is less travel.

Turns out that installing the Explorer axle was the easy part, figuring out and hooking up the emergency brake cable was the real challange.

I ended up using the back half of an Explorer brake cable, from the ends that hooks up to the wheels to where it meets up with the single cable on the drivers side. I also used the Explorer cable bracket that is bolted to the frame.

I had to weld the Explorer cable bracket to the Ranger frame exactly 18 1/2" forward of the rear axle, this is the same location as an Explorer. I was able to use use the front portion of my Ranger cable.

It fits and looks like a factory install. Really nice having an "E" brake again!

I'm at work now but I'll post pictures later.

what did you weld the mounts to the axle with???

Ya, same issue here...I'm running into issues trying to find brakelines, or did you just use stockers?

really, when will you have the first set? did you get my privet message i sent awhile back. thanks for the part number.

Blackdog,

You have any pics of the e-brake setup? I've actually been updating our Explorer 8.8 page.

The e-brake is the only thing I can think of that isn't covered.

did you go with no lift in back for a pre-runner look?wait just a minute- wheres the deaver springs that come with the stage 3?
they are rediculously soft and you can't carry much weight but they flex great.if you haven't got any leaves yet and want to carry a load maybe skyjacker would be a better source
