Okay hello everyone, i have a pretty rare setup so let me first lay it out.
Ill post some pics later.
Stock
1984 Bronco II XLT 4X4
2.8 L v-6 98,000 miles 7 thou on rebuilt
5-speed manual

The completed projects:
Flow master, fog/driving lights, new performance driveshaft, Shocks, brakes, bigger tires, stereo, mustang distributer and cois,

Bore'd out 35 over, complete rebuild, took ALL emissions off (cat, computer, air pump and everything, litterally took hedge clippers to the wiring), tossed the top of the motor and wiring, and installed an Offenhauser Dual Port intake, and put a performer series 390 cfm on top of that.
( i live in Wyoming and go to school in Montana, luckily they dont have ANY emmissions or inspections either )

my question is, should this vehicle last at least my last four years in college, on this rebuild, i would just like to know how reliable i am looking for this truck to be. ive had it 4 years and did the rebuild last august.

All comments and feedback is appreciated.

No guarantees on how long any vehicle will last, but I think that your setup will last at least 4 years, if you stay on top of regular maintanance, and don't beat on it too badly. Nice truck you have there, and welcome to TRS.

My 84 has over three hundred thousand on the clock and still starts first time and runs like a charm. It does leak oil from every available orifice but you can't have everything.

u say u have a mustang carb on it correct?
did u end up switching to a vacuum advance distributor?
reason i asked we just did the swap on my brother in laws truck an we found one off of a 2.8 pinto were going to use.
did you notice anything different after u did the 4bbl swap?

sorry for the thread jack.
nice looking rig btw!!

Im not carb expert but I didnt see where it said Mustang carb, Its unless performance series 390 is a mustang brand. It also appears your setup might be a little less rare than you would expect. i cant answer your question but you should be able to find plenty of answers here on the forum. Check out the engine sections down low where people have swapped motors, the should be able to give you a better idea of your reliability.

I will say that proper maintenance and any car will last well beyond 4 years.

The 390 cfm carb is found on old mustangs and pintos, but i bought a new one. and the vaccuum advance distributor and the coils and a msd ignition box.
it is very close to a mustang/pinto engine.

eventually i hope to drop in a 4.0, but these things cost money and time. and im going to be a metallurgical and materials engineer, so i have neither at the moment. lol
i change the oil every 2k miles and keep a very close eye on everything.
its not a bad little setup. pretty good amount of horsepower ( for stock engine) and i stll get decent gasmileage.

Your lucky. Mine smokes more than George Burns ever did, but only when you start it up. Other than that, I can't complain much- 16/17 MPG on 31.10.50.15s', 3.73 gears with a worn clutch. All in my 1 owner 84 BII.

Nah, not on this motor. It is too tired to do just a little work to. In all actuality, I need to re-ring it, as the compression is low enough that it wants to walk off when you park on a decent slope, or even lean against it. It does, however, have and holds wonderful oil pressure. I need to replace the clutch in it too. I have a 2.8 that I am almost finished rebuilding that is going to go in the engine bay hopefully soon.
