We have A '93 ranger, 3.0L, 4X4 with the bw1354e. w/ 160,000 mi.

We where going home, up a med. grade hwy, holding steady 45-50 mph
then i noticed the rpms were going up 100 rpms every 2 seconds and the speed was droping 1 mph a second
I was also blowing smoke out the back side
when the truck came to rest, it instantly made a 1 gal. puddle
all gears where gone
come to find out the trans was spitting atf out the breather
after it cooled refilled the trans and ran ok but once there was load it spit agin.

Im not fully shure what is to blame but I have ordered superior shift correction kit, it has been shifting poorly

I would like to my wife off my back (:thefinger:Its her truck:thefinger:)

thank you for reading this JEFF

is that like a shift kit? if so is it on the trans? i had mine spit fluid out the breather because it was too full and got a little warmer than normal wheelin but i never lost gears or anything, hope someone on here can help and your trans isnt tits.

The superior shift kit is not installed yet. The trans was not over-filled, after letting cool off it only took 5 qts. I suspect that it could be the torque converter, would this cause the the trans fluid to back flow into the transmission?:icon_confused:

i have had this happen on 2 different a4ld's and both were toast within 3k miles of it happening

Trans got hot..point blank.....now the cause...low coolant in radiator?? possibly cooler plugged up...does it have an external cooler?? could be converter slippage could be clutch slippage causing the extra heat

My wife ran the truck pretty hard, I was just crusing when it happened. coolant level was at the cap (after it cooled down) The external cooler not blocked or grime covered
when it did it agin the motor wasent even to temp.
could the lock up clutch rapid boil in side a 1/4 mile when cold (45 degres) out side ambent temp?
