My 98 Rallycross Ranger

Really, I'm just learning. I haven't been able to practice much. I find I revert back to normal when under pressure while racing. I need to practice until its second nature. I took a rally course a couple years ago, that'd where I learned about it. Since then I've only made it to a few races and no practice time.

Its not so easy doing left foot braking with the m5od. I'm really struggling with that.

Heel toe.
Its amazing what a simple technique like that will do for your driving.

Might be a little harder to execute on a rough rallycross course, but its awesome. I've been trying to get into the habit of it with my focus. Although its a little hard due to pedal layout. The ranger should be easier.

Gotcha. I ask because my Ranger does not respond well to left-foot braking, but I suspect my rear disc brakes are the culprit. While it's a technique I used to use very often in my FWD Integra, I've not found it as helpful with the Ranger.

I got into the habit of heel/toeing with my old Integra as I drove it daily, and now it's a super-ingrained habit; I do it driving my Jeep CJ7, lol. At some point it just becomes second nature, and like you said, it's amazing how helpful it is.

How is the pedal spacing on the manual Rangers? I've never driven a 5-speed example.

best a4ld style trans i had built was from jb trans in dryden mi.

there is a guy in trenton too, not sure if they will mess with hp versions though.

i dont think i would use a m5od for rally cross unless i had to. i would adapt some sort of tremec geared for the cause and positive short shifting.

If you don't mind me asking, what did that transmission wind up costing you? I'm working off of a shoestring budget, hence leaning towards the M5, but if I can get an affordable low-boost-turbo-proof 4R44E, I'd at least consider it.

2100. in 1995. i did not run it long, but gave it to a kid because i went to a v8 powertrain. he ran the balls off of it for many years....and it went into another application after that.

but they did several others for guys i sent that way through the early 2000's under 2200 benched. for all i know he retired and closed the shop.

run a 4.0 version with junkyard parts or an m5 if you have too, but save up for a different setup biased to this type of work. i think its worth it.

I have a line on a 2.3 T5 that should be what the doctor ordered. Time being, I cobbled it back together and went out racing again, and this time I definitely finished off whatever was left of the 4R44E :D
