Never started a thread about this one on here, but I was asked to post a pic of it in another thread, so figure it was about time to start one. Most of my posting about this truck has been done on the Fordification forum dedicated to these trucks, and I woul dhave directed people there. The gallery there has since disappeared losing all of pictures, so I'm trying to get them uploaded to imgur and start over. I'm going to start a thread here, but it will take me a bit of time to upload what I have and remember all of the details.
This is my 1968 Ford F-100. Pics incoming, but let me start with the history.
This truck has been in my family for about as long as I have. This belonged to one of dad's step-dads at one point, I'll call him granddad for ease even though I was too young to remember him well. Somehow in the late 80s dad ended up with it and it was his main working trucking until he parked it in around 2006. He had others, but when there was a tough job to do this is what he turned to. Unfortunately I don't have much in the way of pictures to show for this time period. My family has never been good about capturing the moment, we just live it. This is the only one I can find of before it was parked and pretty much how it looked my entire childhood. I think he was trying to pull over a lightning struck tree before it could fall.
This is allegedly the third body that has been on the truck. It was originally from Michigan. My was the one that brought it down and did the "first" body swap. I say allegedly because my dad did the "second" body swap after he got it, and the body he removed was sitting in the yard for close a decade and pretty well matced the Marti Report that I got for the truck. Can't say if he just got lucky on finding a mathcing body or if the trucks are being mixed up because aparently granddad owned a few of these at the same time.
Marti report for the truck:
For the longest time we thought it had a 390 FE installed, swapped in my granddad, but more on that in a future post. It was originally Rangoon Red which matched the body that was sitting int he yard for ages. Current body is Wimbledon White and Royal Maroon. Cab is more solid than the previous one, but the bed, hood, and inner fenders were already shot when he got the body. Was ppreviously used to haul fertilizer for a farm.
Plan is to eventually get it looking nice, though I will likely never do a full restoration. Neither of us were ever a big fan of the royal maroon, though weathered like that isn't bad, so will probably go back to the Rangoon Red or other non-stock paint color. Thinking maybe Rangoon Red with Wimbledon White roof to keep some of that around (and cooler in the summer). For now I am going to get things in working order and slowly working on getting it solid again.
Here's where dad parked the truck in around 2006 when he bought his F-250 (the same one in my sig), and where it sat until 2018 when I decided I needed a bigger truck (before I got the F-250).
Got the overgrowth cleared out enough to start wrenching and see how it would clean up. Still sat here until it was able to move under its own power, but more on that later as well.
After it got running and moving under it's own power for the first time in over a decade. This was all back in 2018, though visually it hasn't progressed much from this point.
More on what it took to get to this point in an upcoming post. Also more current pics of the truck to come.
Pictures... Are the large ones ok, smaller ones better, or somewhere in between? The smaller were resized for another forum and lost (for now atleast) the originals. I can go either way.
