My 2010 F-150 doesn't Frickin start!!!

Ok, so I go out this afternoon to start my F-150 and it cranks, and cranks, and cranks and nothing.

It seems like it tries to start.....but doesn't.

I use my wifes key just to make sure it isn't some security problem between the truck and the key. Still doesn't start.

The craziest thing is that when I turn the key forward to start it and let go of the key, it keeps cranking on its own until I turn the key off.

I'm so pissed off

Now I have to get up in the morning and try to make arrangements to get the damn thing out of my driveway and up to the dealership.

Did I mention I'm pissed?

The truck only has 10,000 miles on it.

It's getting fuel. It actually ran for about 2 seconds, although it was sputtering, and then died.

The iginition cylinder is bad or someone is screwing with you and pulled the crank position sensor wire and or coil signal wire. I'm leaning toward the iginition cylinder as it continues to crank when it should not. Dealer will cover you.

This is completely normal. To start the truck you do not need to hold the key in the crank position until it starts. Simply bump the key to the crank position and it will crank till it sees the engine has started.

Yup, new feature introduced on some 08 Taurus' now standard on all models except Focus. Computer assisted crank. You bump the key and the PCM runs the starter for about 15 seconds or until it sees the engine catch. Completely normal. Its designed to keep people from sitting there holding the key and burning up the starters if it won't start.

I doubt its a PATS issue since I believe the 2010 F-150 has a starter disable system, so if its the key or the PATS system it won't even crank.

It's probably something stupid like a bad or unplugged CKP sensor. It usually is something just plain retarded with stuff like that.

Had a Windstar in once, guy was complaining that the cooling fan was always running. I messed with it for 2 hours trying to figure out why, pinpoints turned up nothing except that the computer knew the fan was going full speed all the time. Out of desperation I started checking the A/C PIDS and found the high side pressure reading at 400 PSI. A mouse or something had chewed up the pressure sensor wires.

That's probably all this is, just some rodent chewing on your wires.

Look at it this way: You are better off than some people.

I saw a guy once who got towed in from a gas station up the street. He stopped for gas, shut it off, filled up, went to the head, and came back out, 'bout 10 minutes total. Truck wouldn't even crank. A leaking injector hydro locked his engine and he bent a rod when he tried to start it up. This was the shop in Harrisburg PA, he was passing through on his way home to the Jersey coast. At least your's failed at home.

That's how my 08 F150 is. Bump the key over, let go, and it'll start by itself.

Remote starter or alarm? The new "PATS" system is pretty touchy and those bypass modules and alike cause nothing but trouble.

Jim, maybe you should stay with the Rangers. Sorry, I couldn't help myself. I know what a hassle it is to deal with something like that but I am sure the outcome will be good.

It is certainly better to have this kind of stuff happens when it is still under warranty.

Yeah, I hate PATS. It works, but its a pain to program keys, and even though Ford says a PATS failure can't shut down a running engine, I've seen it happen a couple times.
