I'm driving a 1989 ford ranger ext cab. It has the Dana 28 front and 7.5 rear with 3.73 gears. I knew those axles were the greatest and i knew for sure the Dana 28 was a weak axle. so i did some searching around and i bought myself a Dana 35 front and 8.8 rear with traction lock, it all came off a 93 ranger so its going to be a direct bolt on. i purchase some aluminum Cragar 15x8 rims. Im going to wrap my rims in some new 31" BFG Mud terrains. Im looking into purchasing a used 6" skyjacker lift kit. the kit comes with everything they even will throw a dana 35 front axle thats welded. Ill have to buy all new shocks so i decided on going with the ES9000 pro comp shocks. Im thinking i might throw a limit slip into my front dana 35.

After i get all this done im going to do a little body work either paint it flat black or army green. im wanting to spray some bedliner down in my box and spray rock guard along the bottom side of my truck. Im going to rock gaurd the whole undercarriage also. bedline the interior floor of my truck and get rid of the carpet.

I will be dropping the tranny shortly after and put a new clutch in and order some pacesetter headers.

I will toss up some pics in a few weeks.

has anyone here done the Dana 35 and 8.8 swap? is it easy? do the brakes bolt right up? my axles are from a 93 ranger. so i won't need to move the spring perches. I heard the front will be moved ahead a bit with the Dana 35? is that right?

The swap is very easy. The axles are a direct bolt in, except you will likely need to get the front drive-shaft shortened about an inch. Since you are a getting a 6" lift, you may not need to, so I would wait until you are done.

Coil spacers are acceptable, but I would limit them to 1". You can't fit much more than that on the stock stud anyway. Don't get urethane spacers either; they deteriorate over time and can mess with your alignment.
