Assuming this is a factory installed original radio. It was working pretty nice and never gave it a thought the whole three or four weeks I've had this truck now.

It is on and it should be playing music but there is no sound nada, zip zero sound.

If there is a mute button on there??? If so, I haven't found it!

Plan on a new unit? I will be eventually but not yet. :(

I don't see a mute button either. Maybe loose connection somewhere. Or maybe it thinks you put a cassette tape in. Picture ed is a bit blurry. Is there a source (tape/radio) button you might have bumped accidentally?

Wow. I don't think I even own any cassettes these days.

I don't know why it went blurry anyhow I can't find any kind of mute button I don't think I have any cassettes around the house either! my guess it's probably shot I've had it happen with older radios before.

No mute button that far back.

The quick and dirty test is to check for AC voltage at the speaker with the radio turned on.

I probably killed it with the classical music radio station lol

It wasn't ready for the 1812 overture at full volume.

So I was spending a few minutes cleaning out the ashtrays before I start actually cleaning the truck, I pulled out the ashtray drawer under the radio, dumped the butts, put it back in, and the radio started working again! Jazz on the same station in the evening lol
Okay will close this post until I get a new radio or the old one stops working again!

sounds like a typical ford radio to me. the give up the ghost at about 15 years. Had a econoline 150 van that did this. worked when it wanted to. We would be sitting in dead silence, going to a job site, 8:30 in the morning, then BAM Lex&Terry loud AF. we would get all excited, then ....nothing. back to dead silence. We still laugh at the new guys when they ask us " what's wrong with the radio in the Silver Van?"

I have a OEM '98 radio/cassette if you need one. FREE just pay postage.

Thank you, but no thank you :)
I like my classical & swing band CDs

update on this thread!
I was kind of missing the Bluetooth connection for my cell phone so I bit the bullet and went over to Best Buy and got a radio. Went with JVC KD-R990BTS I had my plans for this one or for the Pioneer which was out of stock so JVC is
So I was also wondering with the old radio why the back speakers does not work but that was not why I replaced the radio but now that I have a new radio in place I think I know why the rear speakers weren't working. Lol
Couple things I learned the Ford radio tools really do work took about 30 seconds to pop the old radio out took me about an hour to reconnect all the wires to the new harness for the new radio but I've done there been there done that on other vehicles.
I did find that the metal sleeve since snapped into place perfectly and a new radio fits that perfectly and the trim ring fits perfectly where the old Ford radio fit so it looks like a factory install!

Good choice! I bought a jvc head unit about 7 years ago and haven't had any problems at all. Kicker makes factory sized speakers that sound pretty damn good and aren't all that expensive.

I just fired up the rear speakers! $30 kenwood set and they're fine. the truck sounds like it has a subwoofer! I'm impressed! Now I'm learning this radio, has so many settings it's confusing.

Okay confession, I have a prince CD I was out in the truck listening to, felt like I was sitting in a club, woohoo!
