i recently pulled a mustang 3800 v6, non split port, out from my 95 mustang and cant find someone to buy the engine (go figure) so i figure id like to put it into something else.

would it fit into a ranger? what year and model of ranger?

im avoiding the thunderbirds since i already have a car, but i need a medium sized truck since i have a 3/4 ton already haha. anyways, thanks in advance

With a little engineering and a ton of elbow grease, anything is possible. It just depends on how bad you want that v6 in there.

The 3.8 is the last choice of engine to put in a Ranger. It doesn't bolt to the trans and the mounts don't line up quite right, so it's all the same work as s 4.0 or 5.0 swap to get an engine that was pretty crappy when it was new.

If you have a 3.8 that you must put in something I would suggest the scrap pile.

I couldn't sell a good running 3.8 that I took out of a rag top mustang either. I ended up giving it to a scrap guy to get it out of my shop.

Don't waste your time trying to put it in a Ranger. If your gonna do a motor swap in a Ranger either go 4.0 or 5.0

Think I got 2 of those lying around lol.

Agreed, although, the supercharged ones were pretty fast. However, I've heard that the head gasket issue was exacerbated on those.

The head gasket issue wasn't caused by the gaskets. The heads warp.

I can confirm that, my brother used to have a '94 Mustang with the 3.8, happened to the first motor AND the second. The mechanic told him that motor was pretty much crap unless you drove like an 80 year old man and never spun it past 2.5k.

I have a friend that's looking to buy a 92-95 Taurus, I keep telling him, go 96+, the Duratec 3.0 (not to mention they had a much more reliable tranny) was a excellent replacement for the 3.8, but he's hell bent on that gen 2 body style, lol.

if he is over 6 foot 2 the 96-00 or so are useless.

i would take a 95 3.0 any day over a 96-99 pos.

3.8 is its own bag of shit. fwd or rwd.

95 taurus with an intech v8 from a continental ftw.

they can have the sho crap.

I was hoping that you where asking about the 3.7. Thats the best V6 you can put in for what ever. They used this in a few other vehicles too. In the truck and mustang they used the best transmission ford has created in a long time. It has 305hp and gets 30mpg in a stang that weighs more than most rangers. I am looking at this as a good swap for a 90s 2wd. Would need trans, wiring harness, and factory computer to do it, but you'd be able to do so much with a sct x3 tuner.

well i am waiting to see how greengeekers build goes. if the 1.9 pans out i will do a variation of it.

otherwise the b2 will get a 3.7....its pretty much perfect for what i want to do.

likely dual fuel eventually as the tunes start to flow.......either lpg/gasoline or cng/gasoline.

i do agree, the 3.8 stuff needs to be recycled with fire and not swap installs to further punish their owners...

Are we talking about the new 3.7 that has been the base level V6 in the 150's and Mustangs for the last two years?

You guys are really interested in that pile? I've driven them and they are fairly disappointing for the numbers they throw on a dyno.

The new 3.7 in a mustang dyno's at 250 to 260rwhp, so what are you talking about. Stop with the lies. The engine is one of the best things ford has done in years. It will make more than 305hp if you add race fuel, as it uses a knock sensor to pull timing when you use low grade fuel, but if you add high octane fuel, the engine will add timing to make more power till its at the verge of detonation, yet stays with in the limits. They have made 450rwhp on stock engines with a turbo with no signs of being at the limit of the engine. They are light and compact, being a 60 degree V6 all aluminum.

i can understand this...

now i have some seat time with 3.7 150 and mustangs. and only like the engine more.

when they were still in proto i got to play around with a 150 some years back and likened it to a 90's 302.

if it could hit 20 mpg and run like that i am good with it.

then, i drove a 90's 302 bronco that is healthy...back to back with a 11 truck.

total assraping....the 3.7 even though its in a heavier truck will run away from a 90's 302...and likely a 351 as well. thats unladen of course.

so ass dyno really failed me there, not the first time either.

but they are stupid shifty shifty hunty bastards in many midrange scenarios when you want to pass on a two lane. car is dumber then the truck that way from what i have driven. but both are a bit goofy with the gears.

no matter what they are good swap candidates for this platform unlike the 3.8.
