Hi all,

My 88 ranger 2.9L 4x4 shakes at high speeds (55 mph and up) I just had the front end checked out, they said it was fine, said to check the motor mounts. Would they cause that shaking (vibrating) at high speeds, if so, how would I go about checking them? Use a bar and try to torque the engine??

Thanks,
Anthony

usually if they are bad, you can tell by looking... or moving the motor and seeing slack. so yes, a pry bar might work for ya.

One way I have found out was to leave the hood up and watch the motor with it running then "goose" the throttle. A pry bar also works...or put a jack under the motor with a piece of wood under the oil pan so ya don't dent it.

I had a 91 2.9L 4x4 std cab do the same thing, except it was a faulty plug wire
