Just wondering if anyone knowsa cheap way to modify the 4.0L engine to get better fuel mileage. Cause its horrible! Any tips?

Theres two other threads inthis forum on this same subject, throw in over there. But seriosul a 4.0 goo dmileage? The only mod I know is swap a 2.3 Its very difficult to increase mileage from our motors. It can be done, but not very cost friendly.

buy a fucus. its going to be cheaper....

as has been covered: Search is your friend

and stay off the gas and not bomb around

my 96 started life as a 2.3 and the best i could ever get out of that damn lil truck was 19.... i swapped in a 4.0 and boosted my mileage up to 24

4.0 at 24 mpg?

yup, thats about right.....u can pull 24mpg out of a lifted ranger, aslong as its geared properly and we lay off the skinny pedal, ive done it a few times

Tune it up using quality parts...thats a start. Driving easy can increase mpg by up to 30%. Just drive like granny....ya know except for flooring it into the front of a building :)
