Hey guys just curious what y'all are getting and your setups on the 4.0. I'm running a stock 4.0 with a flowmaster muffler, new maf, tps sensor and 2 new upstreams o2nsensors with 31" tires And 3.73s and I'm getting a measly 15 highway. Just curious if anyone else is having low numbers too or what everyone else is running and they're numbers. Thanks!

Hmm.. never heard that question before... IDK

My '98 4x2 (s/c/4.0/auto/3.55s/225/70R15s) is only getting 21 mpUSgal hiway. And that is driving speed limit.

The '98 4x4 (s/c/331/auto/4.10/31s) does worse; (Don't have a good reference for hiway mileage - too much is city/winter/off-road) I would be happy to make 15 with it.

Sounds about right to me, depending on how you drive. Those tires are going to cut your mileage some.

On my 02 with 3.73s and 225/70 15s I get around 18/19 on hwy. On the 08 FX4 with 4.11s and 255/70 16s I get something around 16, maybe 17 if I am very careful. Both run somewhere under 2500 rpm @ a true (GPS) 70 mph.

Is your odometer corrected for tire size?

All highway should be higher maybe 17-19 mpg

Just pull out a spark plug and see if you are running rich, if you have a nice light brown patina on the white electrode, fuel mix is perfect.

If mix is perfect then your 15mpg is from faulty calculation, big tires or neighbor with siphon hose :)

neighbor with siphon hose :)

:icon_rofl:

IDK what it breaks down to, but my 99 4.0 auto is pretty much except for the tires which I think arent even a full half inch (that sounds strange) added diameter and it gets 300 miles to a tank. I drive mixed but mostly highway. Probably 30-40% of the time its with a load that can bu up 1500lbs or as little as 50

2002 4.0L 5-speed 4x4 3.73:1, 33" tires, 3" lift. 20~21MPG highway. I used to get better. In the city I seem to get around 15MPG...

On the flip side, I can't do any better than 29MPG on the highway with the wife's ecoboost fusion :/

My stock 94 got only 14mpg when I got it. I replaced the plugs and wires, tensioner pulley and serpentine belt, and front wheel bearings. I'm getting 19mpg now mix city/highway. The majority is highway though.

I get 19 highway, with a 3.27 in the back. 4.0l 4x4 94 with intake and exhaust mods

90 BII 4X4 5 spd with 31X10.50's and 3.73 gears sitting on a 3 inch suspension lift. 4.0l. aftermarket heads, cam, headers, and 1998 fuel injectors(4 hole bosch) and on the highway I get 19mpg.

99 5 speed with 190,5XX on 31x10.5s with a side dump exhaust (thrush welded muffler) I get 17.9 and drive a 5-10 over
