im just installed a 4in lift & would like to put 33s on but dont want to kill my MPGs,i also dont have the $ or the 35s to regear to 5.13s.
mine has 3.73s,4.0,5spd,xcab
what are you guy's MPGs w/ xcab rangers w/ the 4.0 5spd
Ok, my truck is a 1987 Supercab with a transplanted 1993 4.0 engine
Mazda Trans 13-54 T-case and 1997 Dana35 front axle and of course a Gen3 8.8" axle out back with 4.10 gears
My truck has a 1" body lift and around another inch of suspension lift (washers in the front, thicker factory blocks and explorer springs in the back)
Running my 235/75-15 BFG A/T's at 50psi I JUST last week while towing a 1992 Ranger 2wd std cab (3.0 5sp) with a 4.0 engine and an 8.8" axle and another 500# of assorted flotsam & jetsum in the bed I got 15.409mpg
on the eastbound return trip from South Bend, Indiana to my house
4 miles north of the intersection of US209 and I476
On tht trip I only shifted out of 5th for a couple hills and then mostly because I didn't want to slow down enough to stay in the right lane behind a slow truck and I NEVER turned off the A/C.
I got 18-something on the trip out, but wasn't really paying attention
because we made side trips to Summit in Akron, OH and to Cabela's in Dundee Michigan going outbound.
I can't really take credit for the mileage, because I was being lazy...
I spent so much effort retrofitting cruise control to the truck
when I rebuilt everything two years ago that I decided to actually
USE the cruise control, so for most of the trip "George" was manning
the throttle I was just choosing what lane to cruise in...
Personally I KNOW I can get better mileage driving manually
(take runnig shots at the hills, etc...)
with 33's I'd look to getting 14-15 if everything is working right...
I have gotten 21 to
almost 22 with the truck on several occasions
and I'm looking to regear (3.73's) to improve it's highway cruise mileage
(it'll also make 4th a bit more useful on the highway)
