I'm throwing an 8.8 out of an aerostar in my '91 extended cab, and was planning on mounting the rear shocks vertical outside the frame rails. I'll be welding in some shock towers to the frame just above the rear tires. The reasoning for this is that I don't like how the current set up has the shock tabs hanging below the axles. I'm trying to eliminate that as a point of hang up. Does anybody have any ideas as to wether this will have any adverse effects on handling or articulation?

Thanks :icon_cheers:

I set mine up outboarded about 6 months ago. It greatly helps with body roll and stability. It will stiffen the ride up a bit as it puts the shock at a near 1:1 ratio of travel/stroke. How it articulates is all in how its set up, as long as there is no bind and the shocks are the proper length for the set up it'll be fine.

Damn you guys! I need to get mine done. Just going to be a bit harder with a full body B2.

the hardest part is cutting that first hole. :icon_thumby:

I too would like outboard shocks, but I don't want to cut open the floor of my BII.

You don't have to have them below the axle, I don't on my 8.8. You just have to use after market tabs and move them around the axle tube.
