Hey Guys,

I'm looking for some info on doing a 5.0 l engine swap. I've got a 98 ranger xlt 4x4. I'm debating whether to use the engine from a mountaineer or an explorer. I really don't know which direction to go so I was hoping you guys could help me out. Gas mileage vs power and cost and ease of installation stuff like that. Thanks!

1. Look at the top of the page and click "tech library"
2. Proceed to use skills taught to you in elementary school to read.

There's nothing specially for a mountaineer swap just explorers.

Mountaineers and explorers are the same thing...

So there's literally not a single difference between the engines of each of them

A Mountaineer is simply an Explorer with a Mercury nameplate, just like a Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis are the same.
It might have a few additional options, but nothing to do with your engine swap.

Thanks for clearing that up Earl43P, that's what I was looking for.

Mountaineers have 100 more HP so they can climb mountains!!!
