Mountain lion spotted in Latimer County, ODWC confirms

My favorite snake isn't even a snake. It's a legless lizard. The Eastern Glass snake ( Glass Lizard)
.

Those probably are Sugar Pine cones @ 20" (Nor Cal) or Coulter Pine @16" (SoCal.) True story. During a campfire ranger presentation at Mt. Lassen the ranger said the native indian name of the Sugar Pine means 'knocks you out while sleeping' If either of them fall while still green and hits you they will ruin your day.

Sugar pine cones are light. I posted a link to a Wikipedia article about Pinus Coulteri, which has heavy pine cones. The cones on sugar pines (pinus lambertiana) are long, but very light. There's plenty of information about both species on the internet.

I tried to go over to the back today and get some photos but the drainage ditch was a bit too mushy and i didn't want to risk getting stuck in the mud, don't mess with soaking wet black dirt ;) Here's some photos from last summer. I let a neighbor graze his cattle here for 5 or 6 years and when he started digging ponds he put one here too :)

Its pretty

I think so too Super. I've been told it is the only stand of native timber left around here.
There is a nearby cemetery which is filled with graves of Woodsmen of the World, mostly from around 1910 and 20s. They harvested a lot of timber from here but thankfully at least one stand got left alone.
There is a spot on one side that had a little picnic spot fixed with some rocks laid around for a fire, under some shade trees no doubt, while they worked at clearing the land next to it
I get junkmail almost daily wanting to buy it, which go straight to the trash.
