In the owner's manual it says to use spark plugs that have a "PP" suffix in the part number. Well I bought some Motorcraft spark plugs from O'rielly's and on the box it says "SP-500, AGSF, 22FM". Are these ok to use? And a guy told me that you shouldn't gap platinum spark plugs cuz u could damage the plug, I'm not sure how true that is but I just wanted to ask you guys.

the "pp" suffix means double platinum. i am pretty sure thats what it means and ive heard you aren't to gap platinums either.

i read somewhere that the electrode cab\n crack and break off into your engine if you try to gap the platinum plugs. can anyone help me with that part number?

ok i called up Ford and they said that the ones I had are the right ones. thanks guys guys....

On the EDIS engines from the factory they were built with single platinum plugs...

the odd thing t some people was that they were different on either side of the engine...

On one side the center electrode would have a platinum tip.
On the other side the ground electrode would have a platinum button.

See on one side of the engine the spark jumps one direction and on the other side opposite... that's because on a six pack coil there are really only three coils and the polarity is reversed for one bank.

Ford figuires that installing single platinums in the correct orientation is too difficult to do in the field so they simply suggest double platinums on both sides.

is that what you suggest then? doubel platinums...

I work in a ford parts dept. i'm not sure about the gap but i can tell you that all of the old ford spark plug #'s have changed to the shorter motorcraft #'s that stat with sp. On the 4 pack boxes, it still shows the old ford part # under the motorcraft # so yes, the sp.500 plugs are probably correct

Double platinums are the way to go, yes. Use either Autolite or Motorcraft.
The late-model Ford ignition system does not get along well with the fancy Bosch plugs that the parts store will try to sell you, because of the reasons AllanD has mentioned.

Very useful info! Thank you!
