Motor wont turn over

Well guys I may have big troubles and I need your help. Was driving my 98 with the 3.0l yesterday, noticed I lost oil pressure. I pulled over, motor was not ticking, knocking, leaking any fluids what so ever. It was still running fine so I was gonna try to get home (5 miles). I made it another mile before it died. Coasted in neutral awhile, then started it one more time to pull onto a side road and get off the highway. It started that time and died after about 20 feet. I coasted to a stop on the side road and that's all she had. Motor would not turn over. Sounds like it is locked up to me, but I've heard sometimes the alternator will lock up and cause this? I took the belt off today and the alt. spins freely so is that out of the question? I've also read something about the CPS doing things like this? Any help or ideas would be great. Thanks!

Sounds to me like the bottom end of the engine is locked up being you lost oil pressure. The gear prob stripped or broke on the Cam sensor and caused the oil pump to quit turning. Can you turn the engine with a breaker bar on the crank pulley? If not I'd start looking for another engine.

Textbook cam synchro failure. The synchro breaks, and stops turning the oil pump, before you know it the bottom end siezes from lack of lubrication. Time to start looking for a new motor, or atleast a fresh bottom end.
