Will a 4.0L V6 engine from a 1996 Ford Ranger fit a 1993 Ford Ranger that has a 4.0L V6 engine?

As long as it is not the overhead cam engine, it will bolt in (I don't know what year they started making those). You will need the intake manafold and all the sensors off of your old engine or it won't plug into your harness.

It will bolt in just fine.
They will both be OHV(Rangers didn't get the SOHC till 200......1?)
'96 will be OBD-II (im pretty sure)
'93 will be OBD-I
The best bet would be to swap just the motor, and use all your '93 sensors/wiring.

Someone correct me if wrong :D

Well....not exactly. I am actually in the same posistion. There are quite a few differences between the 96 and 93 engines.

OBD-II and OBD-I

There's differences in wiring. Connectors, placement, etc.

Different Cab wiring

Intakes are different.....plastic (96'), aluminum(93')

Heads are different.

Different sensors, etc, etc.

Your only real options, for a TRUE bolt in swap is a 93' or 94' 4.0.

You'll need the entire engine, wiring, ECM, y-pipe, etc.

I will also be attacking a similar project in the spring. The 4.0 in my '94 went ka-put, but I acquired a '96 4.0 Ranger with a fried auto trans for CHEAP, so I'll be doing a transplant. I figure by using the '94 wiring and sensors, the engine should just be basically a 'drop-in', since an OHV is an OHV. The only real concern I had was the '96 having the 'fast-burn' chambers, but since the compression ratio stayed the same, I don't see it being a problem. But you never know. In any case, I'll find out in a few months. :icon_thumby:

iam doing the opposite.. i found a motor out of a 94 explorer with 85k an iam putting it in my 96 2wd ranger that has a 2.3 a buddy hooked me up with the wiring an upper intake an waht not off a 96 so it should be a matter of swapping intakes an what not.. an voila 2 extra cylinders.. haha yeah i wish it was just that easy.
