Read the link I gave you, it's all you need to know for your year truck!

Can you put a V8 in a Ranger?:-P

No, you can't. But it strangely it was an available option only in 1996 in the Ranger SVT model...

Definitely check out the article in the tech library. It outlines the differences between the fuel systems, PATS, etc, that will be the best source to figure out which engine will be best/easiest to swap in. Or honestly can do whatever you want if you can get around the PATS, put a 327 in if you want.

Thank you for help that is an awsome article about 5.0 explorer/mountineer I wonder if my sons girlfriend would miss hers if it strangly vanished? Thanks guys

you will hear from the ford purists to use a small block ford...........i ignored them

5.0 Explorer/Mountianeer will be the easiest route.

Essentially the engine bay is the same as what you have, and is almost plug and play electronically.

It would get you one of the best 302's built and the most modern EFI Ford put on said 302 in one whack.

If you want the most bang for your buck, go for an Explorer 5.0. It already has the GT40 high performance heads on it, and as 85 pointed out, very plug and play electronically.
