motor mounts

im trying a 302 swap in my 92 2wd ranger and i need some motor mounts, i heard some mustang gt motor mounts will work, im kinda on a junkyard budget so id like to see if i could find some mounts out of another car/truck but i dont know which ones will work

Diddo on what he said. I just put in a 302 in my '92 ranger 2wd with those AA conversion swap mounts, those are the biggest pains in the butt to get to work.

What he's showing you is the best and cheapest way to doing it.

The two holes on the left side bolt up to the engine itself. The other on the right is for fastenting to the stock mount and this will vary depending on how you want the engine to set in there. FWIW, I ran into a big problem with these plates and Hedman's swap headers (89500?). Haven't had a chance to work on it though, tried to scale a tall wall and landed on my ankle wrong when I landed - long story. Walking sucks right now.

i used stock mustang urithane mounts, put on the oppoiste side of the motor, just had to drill 2 holes in the crossmember and bolt them right in.

The only thing I've found that flat adapter plates won't do very well is level the engine from side to side. Using 4.0L (V6) Mounts -- there were two sets of holes already drilled in my '89s crossmember. They provided me with 2 positions for the engine, vertically. But, I still had to fabricate the L-side adapter plate to raise the L-side of the engine about an 1" to get it level from side to side. Its in the linked thread, tho'. Post #26

I did the swap into my '89 2wd w/3 in of body lift using the 2.9 motor mounts, flat plate w/2 inch tall angle iron welded to it to raise the engine up to look like it belonged in the engine bay. The driver's side is like a half an inch taller to get the engine to sit level. The next one I do (another '89), I will go with just the flat plates cuz I'm only gonna have a 1 inch body lift. Or at least I'll go flat on pass side/about half an inch on driver's side.

BTW, I'm running MAC unequal shorties and the stock catted H-pipe. All I had to do was to heat and bend part of the frame out of the way (looks exactly like the way Ford would have done it!).

not to change the subject off the fabbed mounts but what else is involved with the mustang gt mounts? you just swap the left to the right and right to the left and they line right up or what?

just swapped left to right and drilled the dowel pin hole and the bolt hole, had to set the motor in place and do the math of where to drill the holes.

sounds easy enough, just out of curiousity why isnt this a perferred method since mustang motor mounts are cheap?

Actually a lot like and prefer the Mustang mounts, they say the convt mounts are better because of their constrution, switch side to side. Years something like '85-93'.
Here is what Summit sells and you can see the height difference from side to side.

i do know that convertible mounts as well as solid motor mounts for mustangs sit the engine 3/4 of an inch lower. i had to run solids on my stroker stang so i could fit it under the stock hood for the sleeper effect. still tight as a glove though, gonna end up going with a cowl.

shhhhh!!! dont tell anyone but theres a 399 cubic inch stroker in there...

anyhow ill shut up now since this isnt ranger related
