Ok does anyone know if the explorer v-8 motor mounts will work with a 99 2wd drive ranger. I heard that they would be a direct bolt in for the 4x4 ranger but what about on the 4x2 ranger?

The V-8 Explorer mounts only work with the torsion bar suspension, some of the Rangers have them. Not sure who told you they fit but they're wrong. The tech libaray at top is mainly meant for the 4x4 applications. I posted earlier below what they look like, have to have the plates fabricated and use the 4.0L SOHC frame mounts with them.

That's what I've heard from two Engineers at Ford, that's where I got the plans for the coil spring motor mounts. One more thing I happened to think about last night is the oil pans. Some Explorers come with a cast alum pan and others come with the stamped steel one. For a coil spring suspension you need the stamped steel one for clearance.

how can you tell which one is which by year/apperance?

I'm not using an explorer v8 im using one out of a 88 mustang cobra.

Not gonna work out too well honestly from the researching I've done, you are probably going to want a 96+ EFI 5.0, not a fox motor.

Same basic motor. The wiring will be no different than my swap.

His biggest hassles will be mounts and headers.
I believe the stock cast headers may fit? This seems to be the rareest of swaps.

The wiring is very easy once you dig into it.

Teddy, you're right, same basic motor but '98' was the big year of wiring changes in the Ranger where they matched the Explorer wiring almost pin for pin. You've been around a lot but do you remember anyone doing the Mustang type wiring into a later Ranger. I know some have tried but they have never gotten back with results, just wondering.

Mine had the same wiring as '98, or very similar. I could have used he Ex setup too, just didn't find one.
GT40 on RPS did a Mustang setup on his newer truck.
Just trying to encourage people, it's not nearly as tough as it appears, as there is SO MUCH wiring info available.

An Ex wiring setup is cool, but they have limitations, or challenges also. You have electronic trans control (in the stock Ex 5.0 ECU), possibly PATS, so there's work to do either way.

I may have an '01 swap in my future... Not immediately, but my Dad bought one.

Well the wiring wont scare me, Is the Pats system wired into the pcm or bcm? and what does is control? Fuel pump?? or the factory ignition on the 99 3.0L??
