On a IFS 8.8 in a 2002 F-150...
Regearing the front of my truck so I can have four wheel drive again. Things are a tad tight, but both the ring gear and pinion have a soft black coating that I don't see lasting very long. Should this be removed? Somehow accounted for?
We did have to sand it off for the pinion bearing to fit properly.
The rear gears (9.75) had it also but speced out fine and have ran nice for a couple months now, it also needed the pinion sanded to get the bearing to fit politely.
