I have a 1997 Ranger SC 4x4 3.0L...The problem is it just randomly dies. When it does the fuel pump doesn't run and no fuel pressure. First time it happened I had it towed. Started right up when it got off the tow truck. I thought maybe a dead spot it the fuEl pump and being towed jarred it enough to start. Replaced pump but still does it. However, the weird part is if I catch it starting to stall, I push in the clutch, and I turn the ignition immediately off it will restart right away and keep going. If you let it stall out it won't restart for hours. Any ideas what would cause this?

a partially blocked fuel filter could cause this, if the desperate suction of a dying engine pull a piece of debris in line with the filter pick-up, it could block the flow. Shutting off the engine preemptively would prevent any suction from being applied, and it would release the debris, whereas it would take hours to work loose on its own. Replace the fuel filter on GPs.

I'm assuming you replaced the pick-up screen and cleaned out your tank when you did the pump?

water in the fuel lines could cause the stalling, but not necessarily the 0 pressure. throw some Sta-bil in the next tank of gas on GPs

I did replace the screen on the pump and cleaned the tank. Will try and replace the filter. Some mentioned it could be the inertia switch (fuel cut off).

Jumper the inertia switch' s wires together to rule it out.

Either the fuel pump relay or ecm power relay could be failing. Turning the key off/ on resets it.
