Most Heavy-Duty Tranny/T-case setup for 4.0L

No the c4/c5 are early 80's at the newest and the 4.0L started in the early 90's I believe. The 2.9 is the same block from what I understand and it has a different bolt pattern than the c4/c5 applications. I could be wrong but the c4/c5 never came behind the 2.9/4.0 based block at all.

does anyone know if the c4 was ever even offered as a 4x4 tranny? that would save me some time. as of right now i dont think they did

Yes only 4x4 C4 was offered in the early Broncos. Early Bronco was produced from 66-77.

oh ok. so if i was to find one of these all i would have to do is switch out the front bellhousing, unless i like the c5 options for transfercases better. i dont even know what that bronco c4 would take

Not sure what your asking here.

Yes to the bell housing change, because the Early Bronco 4x4 c4 never came behind these v6's. Far as I know the Spicer/Dana 20 is the only tcase that bolts to the 4x4 c4 (28spline output), unless you get the tail shaft and housing from the c5 (25spline output) then the 1350/1354 will work.

i was refering to what tcases the bronco c4 would take. ive been looking at the 1350/1354 doubler build and i really think i could do it. i got plenty of time its not like the splash is going anywhere. i think im going to keep close eyes on the classifieds and eventually come up with a c4/c5 combo. this would eliminate having to shorten/get new driveshafts. it really seems like the best option.

I know hey, there really is limited choices on what will work with these trans. At least without spending a ton on custom parts.

yea man no joke. those adv. adapter setups are crazy high like a good $500. i dont have that kinda money. it sucks cause i have a hard time putting this time and effort into all this for a 4 liter. i want a 351 but i dont have the materials or the right place for that right now. do you know if the c4 bellhousing will mate to it. that way i can have a built c4 that would be as good as a stock c6 when that day comes. thats if i get the bronco c4 i guess unless all c4 bellhousings sre the same, that does make sense. then i can swap the front bellhousing when ever the v8 comes around

That is an option I'm looking into. There are kits available to put the low range box from a 203 t-case in front of a Dana 20 t-case. You can also twin stick the 20 and or install a low gear set.

Just more options with the EB C4/D20 combo than a RBV C5/1350.

Do you have a link to these 203 kits for the C4? I'd very interested in this please.

My 4x4 C4 came from a v8 early Bronco, came with v8 bell housing factory, unfortunately the guy I got it from wanted to keep the dana 20 and adapter.

OK cool, thanks for that link man, much appreciated!!

You know I looked and looked, I found specs on the c4-203 adapter length but no other info on it or price. The link you provided was all manual trans applications.

I know it's going to cost 500bucks or more for the kit and I'm not spending that unless I can get a doubler out of the deal at the least.

I actually just need the intermediate shaft if they sell separately. They have the 10 spline c4 to atlas intermediate shaft for 150$, I hope they do have the c4 to np203 intermediate shaft separate. It says they use the Dodge 23 spline tcase in the manual trans set-up's, but either way, this may work out to be another option.

I would love to end up doing an np203/205 doubler behind the c4 if this pans out, Think about it for a second, my set-up, fm146/1350, is roughly 40 ish inches long and the c4/203/205 would be only a couple inches longer at 42" and the c4/d20 is 35.5" long.

The c6 is so much longer (27") than the c4 (17") that I wouldn't have been able to run the 203/205 doubler and still have a long enough rear drive shaft....... I hope, but I'm not holding me breath. lol

I contacted them through email to find out more.

yea man thats what i'm saying. if im spending 500 on an adapter kit i might as well get an atlas case and some currie built axles to ice the cake (sarcasm), but no i want 500 to put it all in the truck lol.

What i want is a business that will make and sell the sector shaft thats one piece not two pressed together. id be willing to pay up to $200 for it cause thats the hardest part i feel like. i've heard of d.d. machine making them but i heard he is real bad at getting back with you and with delivery times.

a 203/205 doubler behind a built c4 would be sick too.

I picked up a well abused 84 BII today that has the fabled C5. $100.00
I'll still use the 1350 for now but I can upgrade to a D20 or Atlas in the future easier now.
