most comfotably towed with a 4.0 ohv 4x4

Whats the most you would say can be safely and comfortably towed with a 4.0 ohv 4x4 ranger?

depends on setup. brakes on trailer and the setup that operates them...and the actual powertrain combination and driving ability of the individual operating the ranger.

most guys can take a late model 410 geared truck and tow a racecar on a 7 k trailer no problems at all. say a circle track car or a mustang or their trail b2/ranger ect.

but for a 3.0 i wouldnt tow more than 3-4k stopping is the biggest problem. i tow around 5k all the time with my ranger and it makes a hell of a lot longer to stop. esp with out trailer brakes.

Our main tow vehicle is my dad's GMC Yukon which has a 350 in it. Its getting up there in miles so I wanted to see if a ranger should be fine towing our boat ans snowmobile trailer. Looks like it should be no problem

Towing a boat/sled trailer shouldn't be an issue. As long as you mind your load as far as stopping distances and turning radius's go there shouldn't be an issue. Trailer brakes are always better to have, and if your towing something heavier a weigh distributing hitch (equalizer bar setup) helps with sway and rear end sag.

mine is good up to about 4,000 pounds. i have the manual trans and 3.73 gears. the biggest problem i have with my trailer is frontal area, its a tall trailer and catches alot of air. even empty it feels like 3,000 pounds and goes through the fuel. small boats and flatdeck trailers are no problem though.

Hence the OP's request for a 4.0 OHV. And the most you can comfortably tow is based on your own experience, You may have to have 1 bad experience towing in order to know what your limits are, However listening to others is always safer(if you listen with common sense)

Weight is only part of the equation, anyway.
