more trans issues....

So i got my first ranger as a daily driver and slight fixer upper. I replaved the 4.0 w a 4.0 sohc w 48k on it bc i had a cracked head when i bought it for a measly 500 bucks. The trans shifts hard when coming to a stop and from stop to 10mph no problems after that. Temps are good oil is good. No trans fluid by manifold vacuum bit i think the trans is electronically controlled but i may be wrong. Any help would be great. It is a 97close ranger 4. 0 sohc extended cab. Maybe a xl model im not sure. Thanks
