My 98 mazda b3000 has poor gas mileage (10mpg) and seems to be lacking power, wondering if anybody has ideas on how to fix this and maybe increase power a little bit extra?

No healthy Ranger should be getting 10mpg. How many miles? When is the last time you replaced the plugs/wires? Have you done any basic maintenance or replaced any sensors lately? Do you have any current modifications like big tires? Any Check Engine Lights?

O2 sensors will play a major role in MPG, they start reacting slow and then your mileage suffers, My truck was getting 12-13 mpg when I bought it @ 80K changed the O2's and my mileage went back to 16-17 in town. You need someone with a scanner that will graph the O2 function and see how many times they change in a 15-20 second time period while cruising at a steady 55 mph on the highway, they should change about every 1.5 to 2 seconds so in 15 seconds you should see 7-8 changes, mine were in the 3-4 changes per 15 seconds, every change is a fuel adjustment, hence the relation to mileage.

Plugs, HEGO are major players in mileage

LEsser players are the ACT and ECT sensors.

I've personally had an Engine Coolant Temp sensor "Go south" on me
and tell the computer that the engine was "Cold" when it wasn't and this caused the engine to run pig rich...

Yes indeed, regular maintenance items will have the biggest effect on mileage (don't forget lubrication and tire pressure), but if your 98 is anything like my 01, you could have 250k Miles+ on it and need to start looking at things like compression/vacuum. leaky gaskets and hoses can have a pretty significant effect on the ECU. I was in your boat until I addressed these things and now I'm up in the 23 MPG combined range.
