i would like to install a oil temp gauge and trans temp gauge. i do alot of heavy trailer towing and i would like to keep an eye on my oil temp and trans temp ive burned up a trans before by hauling to much so id like to keep that from happening again. so my question is how do i install both and where could i mount them any ideas would be great. my ideas are in the A pillar any others are greatly welcome. i already have a temp gauge tach and battery gauge and i might want to someday install a small efan as kinda a back up on those hot alabama days when im hauling a trailer up some of the foot hills around here and its not only a few mins of driving and its more like 45 mins and some stop and go traffic and i have already seen my temp gauge rise a bit of doing that so some insurance like a efan to make sure i dont crack a head or worse whatever that maybe

the a-pillar seems to be the best option, u dont take the eyes completely off the road to watch em.

so far the hardest thing about that is finding one the only ones ihave seen are for a superduty up to 07 but not sure if it would fit they look the same but you never know

sunpro and autometer make some universal ones, you just have to take a heat gun to them and do some tweaking to make them blend to the a-pillar. i mounted mine under the ashtray, but i agree that you do have to take your eyes off the road for a few seconds. B&M makes a nice temp gauge that reads from 100deg to 300 (part no. 80212), it retails for around $50 and it uses an electronic sensor that has 1/8npt thread. you could drill your trans pan and install it there or use a compression tee and put it inline with the trans cooler line so you would get the temp as its going to the cooler. as for the oil temp gauge, if you have an oil level sensor you could remove it and use that hole or ignore it all together. if your engine oil is getting that hot then switch to synthetic so it can handle the temps.

if your not worried bout oil temps then i shouldnt be i use motorcraft 10w30 in the summer with lucas oil stablizer and 5w30 with lucas oil stabilizer im more worried about the trans ive replaced one before and i dont have 2grand to replace mine if i overheat it. and what would be a good temp for the trans to be in
