i bought another 83 ranger with the 2.3. it needed a new timing belt. no problem, thought I. take it all apart, put a new timing belt and a new tensioner on. I get the whole mess put back together, and it started even. im sitting in th etruck , fiddling with the throttle, revving it up, letting it idle, revving it back up. all of a sudden, the throttle sticks, truck wraps up hard so i pannic response and turn the key off.
And now the truck wont start again. I think that i must have not gotten the tensioner tight enough, or the vibration made the belt skip because looking in the sight hole in the cover, its off agian. any body have any insight into this? I have to take it apart after work tomorrow again anyway

The belt may have jumped a few teeth if the engine was cut off at high rpm's, especially if the tensioner was not tightened down all the way. Generally, you want to put the belt on, release the tensioner, tighten it, and then crank the engine over a couple turns to insure the 'slack' in the belt is on the tensioner span. After rotating the crankshaft, bring it back to TDC, and check the cam timing marks.
