Modifying the MAF for Improved Air Flow

I have slowly come to accept that this is an engine which doesn't breathe deeply and never will, not without speed parts, maybe a different cam and something to lift the valves a little higher. I put in dual exhausts and a KN air filter only to see minor improvements. I'm glad for them, but if you are looking for greater acceleration, you will be disappointed. The Vulcan is a good and faithful sherpa, not a track star

Oh, the 3.0 can scoot pretty decent if you can get it in the power band and keep it there, but that requires a manual transmission. An automatic tends to shift way too soon and the stock automatics we got were not very good at power transfer anyway, but a shift kit will help them a lot.

Yes indeed. Can you recommend a shift kit

I’ve used TransGo on my 92 with the A4LD and I’m putting a stage 2 TransGo kit in my 4R70w behind the 5.0 in my green Ranger currently. No idea if there are better offerings or not, TransGo was the recommended kit on the Explorer forums for the A4LD. I think for yours there is a bonded separator plate that does away with the upper/lower gaskets on the valve body and the upgrade for the reverse servo is square cut O-rings and a new gasket. Those parts would be in addition to the shift kit. Not sure what else the 4R and 5R trans would need, haven’t dove into one of those yet.
