I bought a Acer Aspire 6530 laptop with Windows XP and an AMD Athlon X2 64 dual core processor.

My internet connection is really slow sometimes.

I have a Kyocera KPC680 expresscard modem. It is only supoose to be compatible with the 32-bit version of Vista. Does that meen it shouldn't be working on my current setup???

just a quick question when you say expresscard modem is this for dial up internet or highspeed? and if it is for highspeed then why are you useing this card when the laptop comes with a better built in lan connection and wireless connection. more information is needed to help.

Most laptops wireless will only connect you to a network. (ie home network/router or Starbucks network etc.) they will not connect you to the internet. you need an internet provider and a router in addition to your wireless card on the computer. My guess is that the card Jim is talking about is similar to the FIOS card from Verizon. it will actually connect to the cellular network and internet regardless of the position on the wireless switch.

There are some exceptions to this rule on laptops, and they have a cellular or satellite modem built in, but that adds a good bit of expense to an already expensive computer.

AS for being compatible w/ the 32 bit version of Vista, is that the version you have on your computer? our HP laptop is a 64 bit machine, but it came w/ the 32 bit version of Vista. If this is the case, it should work.

I wouldnt worry about the compatibility. Not an issue.

If it's slow, it's because of the connection, your location etc. There are too many variables with wireless connections for them to be constant. They will always be spotty.

Maybe you can get an upgraded card?
Reset your browser and remove all add ons?
Firefox adblocker?
Disable flash animations from loading?
Turn off all AV software? (Antivirus software in my opinion is worthless and just slows everything down)

Also, you can use the 'Mobile' version of websites that are designed to run on cell phones, they will run wicked fast on a computer.
