I got a '92 Ranger with a 3.0L and a 5-speed. I am thinking of getting headers and a hi-flo cat to stick in front of the new O.E. exhaust. Hopefully with the O.E. style exhaust, I will be able to gain 1-2 MPG. I am also considering a Flexa-lite e-fan from JEGS (part # 400-40) in the fall when I go to the swap meet in Englishtown. I am hoping these upgrades will increase MPGs a little bit seeing as regular is around $4/gallon around here. I might consider making a CAI out of PVC; though I might try my hand with my mom's Crown Vic first and go from there.

Your gas sounds cheap compared to around me. Here it's $1.30/L or ~ $5/gal but I know what you mean.

Its actually worthwhile financially for me to insure a second more fuel efficient car to drive around town for how much it saves on gas.

Maybe you could try the newer 06-08 oem exh? mine has a nice rumble and its fully SS with 1 cat on each side after the headers (2 total) not like the 5 cat designs of some of the earlier trucks.

I contemplated getting a whole new exhaust, but this OEM exhaust is new, so I am going to leave it alone for now except the headers. I am going to do the same mod for my father's F-250 as well because his truck has a new exhaust too and just needs headers.

Yep! All the headers will do for you is empty your pockets a bit.. Don't count on any improvement whatsoever.

Yeah I'm from Jersey. I go to Englishtown every chance I get. I can't wait for the Summer Nationals later in June. I also attend the Funny Car Reunion as well.

I might get the headers anyways; every time I have taken the logs (exhaust manifolds) off of any vehicle, I have seen an increase in MPG. My driving habits are the same as was with my Malibu in the later days; easy on the pedal with some Dion and The Belmonts playin' on the radio. Though I am still learning the subtleties of a manual tranny.

The actual intake manifold, and throttle body are the restrictions. Once you open those up, then headers are a good option. The actual air box and platic tube intake are fine.
