Hello,I Know this has been covered several times but i cant get someone to tell me the minimum of things i need to do to run a mazda m5dr1 behing a 1989 ranger 4x4 with a 2.9....the truck had a mitsubishi fm146....ive heard people say change the clutch and starter and i dont have the cash to do that right now...so what im asking is it a direct bolt in without NO changes can i run it with all my 2.9 parts???

Should be a direct bolt-in swap. You can reuse your old clutch and starter, though I would highly recommend the 4.0L clutch upgrade while you have it apart (the 4.0L clutch swap requires the new starter & flywheel).

Be sure to get the shifter boot & trim and floor plate for the M5OD though, they are different (the M5OD has the stick further forward than on the FM146, the FM146 stuff won't fit).

Thanks alot man you told me exactly what i wanted to hear....and how much wear and tear you think it would cause on the 2.9 clutch?

can I do the oppisite?

i have a 1992 ford ranger 4.0l v6 4x4 and i have a tranny from a 1989 for ranger 2.9l fuel injected the tranny in the '92 is the m50d-r1 (or two not quite sure 'bout that the code in the door is M) and the one in the '89 is the mitsubishi fm 146 can i swap 'em?

oh and the '89 is also a 4x4.
