Hello All,
Anyone installed or use the Mishimoto transmission coolers?

I am replacing A4LD in a few weeks and want to add larger cooler to the transmission. The little factory size external cooler I think needs to be larger to help keep it cool.

I was looking at the 13 row stacked plate fin cooler and hope it will not effect the ac condenser cooling be so much larger than the factory cooler.

I still run the factory configuration... and have on several automatic Rangers.

Got a link to what you're considering?

Well with what this a4ld cost and what I read keeping it cool just figured larger cooler would not hurt. It will be driven by daughter and biggest load it will ever see behind it is her Sea Doo on trailer.

Technically there is such a thing as too cool. I have no idea where that lines is on an automatic transmission tho.

What I would do is have the cooler in line before going into the stock factory radiator. That way the fluid is at the correct temperature coming out and can't be over cooled.

I agree with Alwaysfloored. Have the aftermarket cooler before the factory one in order to make sure the fluid isn't too cool.

While I don't think it is as big of a deal with these trucks, more modern designed vehicles will think the transmission is cold and run the engine rich in warmup mode constantly. Which will cause all kinds of other problems and headaches down the road.

For reference for anyone that does not know.

Not what I meant, but probably a helpful graphic. I meant at what point is the fluid too cool to operate correctly? It shouldn't matter as much if you're still running it through the plate cooler in the radiator too.

@toolman60
I use dual transmission coolers and a single engine oil cooler out in front of my radiator. The engine still warms up slow and maintains good temp even in the hottest environments that I've resided in.

The only tip I can offer is to have your transmission fluid go to the cooler(s) first, then to the radiator. This setup does a good job of insuring that that fluid isn't too cool for proper transmission function.

Mishimoto make a very nice product ..)
