I told you you were right I made a mistake and measured incorrectly, I thanked you for the info and the pics, I am not sure where this is coming from " WHY AM I POSTING HERE?!?!?!?!?!?!?" AND sorry if helping me out is a problem for you.

Again I say it thanks for your time and effort in helping me to determine the differences in the mirrors.

Thanks to all for the assist...

Aftermarket = JUNK!!! Rattleing/bouncing mirror glass while driving down the road is all I hear about 'em. Casper had an aftermarket housing on his for a while and I witnessed it's bouncing habits. I vote stay away and go OEM or hope to find a set of good used OEM FoMoCo ones, IMO.

Jibberish....i probably read it wrong. Was tirrrred. lol......i was gonna measure width of driverside vs. pass side. I find the view to be wider, just like any other convex passenger side mirror.

Scrambler......time for you to go to the ford dealer and test drive an '09!!!

Why close the post? It's good info and your bound to want to post again in it.

A little scuffle is no reason to close a thread...

If you guys really want measurements from OEM FoMoCo parts off BOTH styles of mirrors...give me a few hours to get you those as I don't skimp on using aftermarket parts...

I disagree about aftermarket mirrors being junk. I have 0 problems with mine. No rattling or anything. And they are built at the same dimensions as the factory mirrors. They can be bought individually in case you break one of the stock mirrors. I have compared the two and there is visually no difference between stock and Kool-Vue, and they fit and perform just fine.

Alright. Cool....That's good there's at least 1 brand of good aftermarkets. I know where to get my new ones in case I want to do the painted capped ones now. Thanks for the review, Jay.

I do agree with ya. I understand why we're argueing measurements STILL....but you didn't need to react the way you did though. Just my opinion.

Now...lets get back to mirrors! Scrambler......Go to ford and test drive a '09 to see how you like them. Best suggestion I could give ya.

Scrambler......time for you to go to the ford dealer and test drive an '09!!!

Not going to happen, my '03 only has 30K on it, nice enough.
(Added: misunderstood, just a look see, got ya !!!)

I agree with staying with the OEM where possible, new pwrd replacement OEMs are short cash if buying from the right place but not $100.

I like the look of the square '06 but am not sold on it completely yet, price vs what you get.

Thanks,
ltr.

Well......you asked for bigger, heated, signals. Your ONLY option without going immensely ugly IS 06+ mirrors... If you don't like this option, get those add-on trailer mirrors that stylin'trucks or whoever sells. Both Jay and I are giving you suggestions coming from experience of owning both style of mirrors on our trucks.

Like I said...hit up the ford dealer and have a look see and drive the thing to see how you like 'em or not.

oh...and you think $100 for a mirror is too much? That's LESS Than the FORD retail price for JUST one mirror. I happened to get one hell of a deal from my local dealer hookup who found one mirror in Jersey and one in Mississippi that still had an old part number on it. After the new part number was applied, Price each jumped up to about $120 each...this was a year ago too. Never hurts to do you own research as well...while at ford looking at your mirrors, walk up to the part counter and get a quote.

Mirrors are VERY common break items...I believe it to be the reason the price is high on them.

OK thanks to both of you for all of the info, I have an idea of what is what with the 06+ mirrors and will act accordingly. I will do as you have suggested, check out a new Ranger and see for myself.

The style speaks for itself but the price is something I need to consider too because of work availability, so I will have to think this whole thing over.

Thanks again,

mirror viewing area

I have to replace a mirror on a 2005 xl (no power anything) and came up with the following:

2005 base model paddle style
5-1/8 x 6 inch wide ---> 30.75 sq. inch surface area

200? "sporty" style
4-6/8 x 7-2/8 inch ---> 34.44 sq. inch

2006+ "box shape"
5-6/8 x 6-7/8 ---> 39.53 sq. inch

Significant difference in viewing areas, but choice is also between taller or wider view.

Prices I found for textured finish mirrors delivered(/each):
Ford mail order all 3 models = $90 non-motorized, $104 motorized each.
Kool Vue box shape = $48 non-motorized, $56 motorized
Kool Vue sporty style = $38 but is motorized
Kool Vue does not make textured finish in paddle style or non-motorized sporty style.

I suspect that using a motorized mirror in a non-power-mirror door, and manually adjusting the mirror would eventually cause the gears to strip and the mirror to flop around?

Converting to power using new Ford harnesses is very expensive. But the cheapest power control switch I found was a 2010 for $20, and with self wiring and generic connectors, would be reasonable. Anyone know where the nearest constant-on power wire is located (and color)?

Thanks for the info, '06 sounds like what I am looking for.
Now to find some pwrd/heated units, must be something out there.

Does anyone know how to get the mirrored glass out of an OEM Mirror ?

I believe that the glass is glued in, maybe a heat gun and some gentle persuasion from a plastic pry bar could do it. I did it on chevy mirriors and it worked until i let the glue cool down too much and then the glass cracked because the glue wouldnt let go.

instead of buying oem mirrors at the dealership or aftermarket why dont you look at local salvage yards? here is a link to a site that i use quite often in my search for parts around my house. i have had great success with this.

http://www.car-part.com/

I ordered a set from ebay of the manual style textured 06-11 mirrors for $26.25 each with FREE shipping.

Cant locate the conversion thread showing the enlarging of mounting holes for installation of newer style mirrors. YES I did several searches, maybe I didnt word it correctly.

I ordered these mirrors on 5/22,they were shipped out on 5/23 & I received them today on 5/25, very quick being as they came from New Jersey & im in Washington State. East coast to west coast in 2 days thats great shipping & it was through our USPS.
