Mirror interchangeability

I've got a 91 ranger with flag style mirrors and have always wanted the big chrome ones. Has anyone ever swapped over to these. I was wonder how tricky the swap would be. Different mounting holes? I think the big ones have an inner brace too. Maybe a whole new door is easier.

I went the other way...from the big ones to the flags on my current Ranger. But before I did that I went the other other way and added the larger mirrors to my first truck. Wasn't hard, just pull the inside door panel, place the mirrors on and drill from the outside. Lower holes use a special type of bolt connector from the factory that goes across both holes to provide support. Don't use individual nuts and washers if you can avoid it, but that works.

I think the top holes for the flag mirrors matches the holes for the larger mirrors (on Gen 1 anyways) so you only need to drill the lower mount holes if they are not there already.

I went back tot he flags because I kept knocking the bigger mirrors on various and assorted objects including my body and found the flags were less prone to knocking around. The main problem with the flags is they sag...but I found that putting a zip tie around the base of the mirror keeps it up better than any complicated fixes. They only sag when I put my hand on them while driving with the window open...lol
