Thought I would ask for some feedback re: coolant. (Have a 4.0L pushrod)

So when I bought the truck & checked the coolant I noticed it was about 1cm (1/2 inch) below the cold fill line on the reservoir. Being a keener I topped it up just that little bit to the cold fill line again.

Now it's been about a month later & it's dropped back down to where it was before. It doesn't seem to go any lower than that...is this basically where my truck is happy?

It all seems to run fine & I haven't noticed any leakage anywhere. Just wondering if I could have overfilled it with coolant(?)

Thanks

i don't think you can unless you fill it up to the top and there is no room for expansion !! The problems is that you are losing coolant you might a intake gasket leak or head gasket leak!!!!!

Hmm, just read a few more old threads that mentioned the heater core possibly being the cause. The thing that struck me was people mentioning they could smell antifreeze. I've noticed a couple of times getting out of the truck there's kind of a "burnt" smell. Nothing else odd going on & it's running well...

Haha one thing I've learned from vehicle repair is the less I mess with it the less goes wrong :icon_twisted:

Oh yeah & the oil looks fine when I check it. Just had it serviced a couple of hundred km ago & the garage didn't add any coolant (it was low then as well) or mention anything.

If those smells are inside the cab, I'd be careful driving it and get it fixed ASAP. Those are toxic fumes.

same thing with my 98 40, it will go through some coolant, bout the same amount as you, every month or so nd i jsut top it up and its runnin fine. my temp guage is always showing it runnin cooler but wat ever

Awesome, thanks snoman. Good to know it happens to other people as well. Yeah mine's never indicated any kind of overheating or anything so I'm just going to keep an eye on it unless it gets worse.
