Last spring I spent about 10 days off-road on the Mojave trail and Death Valley. When I got home I had a very slight rattle from the clutch area as it was just beginning to engage. It worked normally and made no noise otherwise.
I recently spent another 8 days off-road in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. That slight rattle is now gone. The clutch is still working normally.
I did a complete clutch job at around 100K miles because of a problem with the throw out bearing. I used good quality components and the self adjusting pressure plate. The truck has 175K miles on it now.
I am suspecting the self adjusting mechanism that caused the slight rattle. I know when I adjusted the mechanism before installation, that ratchet style system seemed like it could rattle if not under load.
I am not necessarily looking for a solution but welcome any comments regarding possible causes of the slight rattle. I am happy that it is gone.
