Military Tires?

I stumbled onto some Military tires on craigslist and decided to look into them.

Tempted.

well I once had a set of Military tires but I can't remember what they where. I can tell you I had them mounted on 20" double bead locks from USA6x6. they were 52" over all dia. and heavier than a pregnant elephant.

I believe the 14.00 R20 means it has 14" sidewall for mounting a 20" wheel, but 14.00 could also be the width????? why don't you email the guy and ask for a brake down of the sizes........

Hummers run a 37x12.5r16.5.

I can get them for like 125 a pop with 90% tred.

I'm thinkin this'll be my next set of tires.

There's a guy here parting out a 2.5 so I'm gonna see what he's got. Some rocks would be nice.

With tractor tires the first number is the width, and the second is the rim diameter.

The 13.6-28's on my WD-45 are roughly 13.6" wide on a 28" diameter rim. If I had to guess this is how those tires are measured too.

Sidewall height is hard to measure because it varies with rim width.

What are the tires going on ?
I do not know Mil Tires what is the the ply rating on teh side walls ?
I would think that the side walls on these things will not flex very much with the weight of a Ranger, so unless you are doing MUD, MUD , MUD then the tire will be almost useless on the rocks or rough trails.

It may look good, the size vs $$$ but consider all aspects of what you want to do with the tires and "the look you want", then go for it, if it fits.

yep, first number is the tire width, second is the rim size it mounts on. the US military style tread really sucks in most situations. they wander quite a bit in road driving. they do self clean well in mud, but the tread really doesn't propel you enough to get through any big mud holes. on rocks, i honestly don't know. i've driven everything from M38's and 151's to 5 ton trucks with this tread pattern. don't think i'd consider them myself. however, the new NATO tread pattern (Michelin ZXL and similar patterns) are much better and worth the extra money. just my $.02
