i remember there was a thread about somebody wanting to be physically fit before enlisting. Well, I am enlisting but Im having trouble deciding on a MOS i want to try for. I know im not guaranteed anything really tho. I want to be a cop,FBI,TBI,ATF, etc etc whenever i get out of service, even though i plan to do military all 20 years allowed.

So heres what im looking at, tell me which you think would be best?
Artillery...been told cant really use it outside of service
Infrantry...been told does most MP jobs now and but helps slightly outside military
Motor Transport...Could be mechanic or driver, either way seems nice, could use more mechanic knowledge
MP...been told it helps none at all if decide to go police/gov. outside military
Force Recon...basically special ops...oh im joining the marines by the way:icon_thumby:

nothing special, just tryin to get some opinions

94-Bravo...Military Police...Take it from a POST certified police officer, Military police training will help you with employment on the civilian side of law enforcement.

if you actually end up being able to be Force Recon at some point in your military career, do it. that is just about the most bad ass of the bad ass.

a friend of mine was a heavy truck driver in the marines. when he got out he decided on being an over the road truck driver. the training he got in the marines made it easy for him to drive a tractor trailer.

what was it like being a MP in the army, i know there are 2 different types of MP jobs too. Idk what MPs do anymore other then guard bases/epw's, other then that infantry serves most warrants/raids now..duh, i know...but at same time ive been told they are putting more SWAT tactics into MP now, idk tho

I was a 21E in the army, Heavy Construction Equipment Operator. Very fun job love operating equipment. But as with a lot of things in the military at least what i dealt with, we didnt do a whole lot of our job, i mean at times we did but i spent a ton of my time in the gunner turret pulling security. Just another thought, dont go in planning on staying the full 20, so many people in just the 4 years i did, said that and a few months later it was a different story. The military isnt for everyone, just try it out, and if you dont like your job you can reclass to another job or get out if you want.

how hard is it to reclass? i cant meet with my recruiter till next tues. so i wont know what he will tell me till then

11c1P Grunt is the way to go. I never regretted being infantry. I never regretted being airborne. While its not special forces, I sure had a hell of alot of fun. I found that infantry are usually better accepted in civilian police force more than MP's or SP's.

To reclass in the army normally requires a reenlistment, and i was airborne also as an equipment operator, fun for the first 20 or so jumps then kinda got old to me, but watching the heavy equipment falling from the sky never gets old. but for reclassing if you plan on staying in, dont judge the army or service of your choice by your first unit, my first unit was awesome, but then we got new command and it sucked balls so just realize one place wont totally show you what the whole service is like.

Doesn't matter what you are, you still have to attend your state's police academy--or trooper academy. Just do what you want. I wanted to be in tanks but ended up in the artillery. Everything is done at night. You shoot five rounds, hook it up and drive like mad, unhook it and wait for 3 hours then hook it up and then suddenly stop and unhook it and shoot 5 rounds and then hook it up and sit for three hours waiting for the word. Then you unhook it, but point it all in a different direction . And then repeat as necessary. It's really heavy--all of it. It's all manual, it's all dark and tired and cold and don't give a shit, but you still do it. You smash your foot with an 8# sledge trying to get a pin loose in the dark without any light at all--you don't even have time to curse and limp. You will learn to sew on buttons because every time you stop you unroll a 300# cammoflauge net from the bows of the truck, over the hood and over the gun. Then fight the snags as you stretch it out and stake it down--in the pitch dark which make it hard to see the end of the engineer stakes you are trying to hit while holding the 8# in one hand. Then you assemble and run up the poles and fight the snaggs free as you go. Then you gotta get the gun back ready to fire and then you are starting position improvement--digging holes to dive into, putting out the crew-serves. And before you even get that far, you are taking it all back down again and putting the 95# shells back on the truck, rolling up the net, which, by the way, has torn about three buttons off your uniform, and then off you go again. You never know what is going on, and it never ends. And in the short amount of time you ar ein garrison, you are spreading nets out to mend them, cleaning and polishing your personal weapons, spending the days in the gunpark learing and testing on new jobs on the section, and spending hours with crokus cloth and CLP busting rust. And, still, you have to keep your underwear folded 4x4 and carefully stamped with your name and your uniforms devoid of irish pendants. And you might be on mess duty or camp guard--and there is a constant firewatch whic meas you can walk around the barracks trying to discipline your drunk buddies who are going to get you into trouble by bringing girls and Coors into their room because they are counting on your being best friends with them.

It's a life alright. I did 10 years of it: 1986-1996. I would serve again in war-time. Peacetime military life sux. It seems like that if you enlist now you will end up somewhere strange. In 2009 I think you can be downloading MP3s one minute and calling in air support on fire coming from a house in the next. Surreal.

idk about MPs or anything but as far as out side jobs. heavy equipment oper. can give you your cdl A and b which is handy or ever front end loaders and ect. mech. same thing in or out. spec war. good for black water. and good for being a police officer. nothing you do in the military is 100% shoe in for police on the out side its just a leg up.
how ever. i dont know about the security guards are like were you live. but getter around north east (US) is big and they get a chubby when you tell them you have combat training. they bought me lunch and kissed my ass. they asked me to be interviewed for a us mint. which i got a offer that i turned down, but still its almost a 100% shoe in with them.

7011 aircraft recovery
