So, I’m not sure on the 94, but I know the older 4.0 only had one oxygen sensor, right at the end of the Y-pipe before the cat. So you may only have one sensor.

Also, oxygen sensors have a lifespan. 10 years or 100k miles and the catalyst inside of it is essentially used up. If you don’t know when it was replaced, best just get it done. Dealership should be able to get you a discount on parts if they actually care about you. I paid about $35 for a sensor just recently.

Not sure what you mean by older, but mine has two. Upstream left and upstream right.
The code should say which bank. I replaced both mine at 221K.

I know 90-92 4.0 only had one sensor.

I also know that the 98-00 4.0 had 4 sensors.

In between those year ranges, I don’t know how many sensors exist. Thus, older and newer, lol

If you don’t know when they were last replaced and if there is two instead of one, I’d replace both. I know that’s not what you want to hear, but that’s the smart move. Replace them again in 10 years or 100k. It’s a maintenance thing.

Ok well what’s a good brand I can’t find motorcraft ones, are Bosch okay? I found some Bosch on amazon but there’s 2 is there 2 different part numbers one for each side?

Okay well got my truck plugged in today and it doesent have a memory so it showed no codes there gonna do a key on engine running test at work tomarrow to see if this code pops up, hopefully it does, my dad and me tried to fix this vacuum leak again because it broke off again but I’m going to get some hose at work tomarrow, I turned the truck on and this hose does nothing at all so im not sure if it’s really creating a vaccume or not or if it only does it at certain times. Anyways we pulled the plugs and noticed there old so I’m gonna get new plugs and throw them in just for peace of mind since I’m here what plugs do yall run in these older 4.0 engines? From what I’ve found there’s a few different kinds of plugs from motorcraft for them

Amazon parts are hit or miss. There’s been a bunch of fakes that have turned up on there and eBay.

A lot of newer oxygen sensors are more universal than they used to be. So both sides should use the same.

I’m not shop Forman is calling the code it threw was 177 witch is an o2 sensor but we don’t know witch one is acting up

I don't remember what a 177 is, but if it indicates "oxygen sensor out of range"- whether rich or lean- that's a symptom, not a diagnosis. That tells the tech which diag path to follow not what to replace. Do you have any techs old enough to have worked on EEC IV? Throwing parts gets expensive and frustrating fast.

I thought "running rich " kind of limited it to just the O2 sensor? Not sure about this tho.

I’m working with the oldest guy in the shop but we can’t find a NGS diagnostic to see how the motor is actually working, he’s trying to find the books for the codes but we can’t find it, and the ford workshop manual doesent load up cuz the program they used is too old

I know price is an issue. so I'm with you there. Amazon does have a return policy, just not sure how it works with auto parts. Read the reviews and rollthe dice. You will prolly be ok.
