So I have no second gear in Drive and no third in Overdrive. Cycling through the gears requires manual input. Clearly my automatic is tired of being a slushbox

sounds like you have a clutch pack or two bad in your transmission.

It will cost $1500+ to have someone rebuilt it

Clutch pack? Trannys are my weak spot inonow nothing about them but I thouht autos had bands or somthing... And I'm pretty sure he's going to swap in a 5 speed

yeah auto's have several clutch packs in them ( if ya know motorcycles, think of their clutches....multi plate affairs )......they just happen to use hydraulic force to clamp them and to shift them.....

I'm either going to 5-speed it or use this A4LD and my spare one, plus a shift kit and new modulator to build one good one. One of the tech's in the shop is the automatic guru, he was telling me of how the A4LD can actually be built to be quite badass offroad. I definitely take his word on that so I may save up and get it done.

Tonight I tried to take a little trip up to the windmills but it went horribly wrong. Buried the truck up to the frame in the snow with no buddy rigs and daylight falling fast. Took a lot of digging, rocking and flooring to get it unstuck. But it happened, I'm sure the transmission loved that. Especially being slammed in forward and reverse

Well no updates on the truck really. Trans is holding out just fine and the truck is doing its job fantastically. Not sure what's next to upgrade, probably going to figure out why my R/F speaker doesn't work.
