my girlfriend's uncle has a ranger he wants to sell it's been sitting for as long as I've known her 5 years and he finally wants to sell it. It's an 89 standard cap 5 speed with a 2.3 in it. body is going to need some work but nothing major not sure exactly whats wrong with it but i was told it should run with some work. What do you think I should do with the engine situation. even if I get the engine to run I still might want to upgrade it, I have a b2 with 2.9 and it was way underpowered so I can imagine what the 2.3 feels like the 2.9 blew up and is out right now waiting on the 5.0. What are your opinions on this

putting 302 in the bronco 2 I have that project is already started i have everything for it just got to put it together was thinking more stock on this one just wondered if 2.3 is worth anything or should i get a 4.0 for it. Don't think i want to put out the money for two v8 swaps nice ranger by the way sounds like it turned out nice what v8 is in it

boy, this sounds familier!

The 2.3L is a decent little motor, they do like to rev though, and if you want to get the 2.3 running again I would have to say check the fuel pumps, if they sit with a long time they tend to freeze up (at least mine did), also if it sat with a full tank of gas you might want to check the tank out to see if the inside has a major build up of rust, the rust flakes will settle around the pickup, it'll starve the motor of fuel and is a pain to figure out at first (ask me how I know :icon_twisted: ) I would also change out the timing belt, fuel filter, plugs, wires, cap, and rotor too, for precaution.

After that you should have a good running little 2.3L.

Also check the wiring around the motor and to your lights, mice like chewing on important wires.

let us know what happens

He is using a JY 5.0 Explorer motor and 4R70 trans w/4.10 gears. Without the blower, his total investment including the truck was under $2000 and he was running 14.9 in the 1/4, that was last Fall. He just got done putting a cam, springs and rockers in it in addition to the eaton blower he's had on for 5000 miles. Never been into the motor till last week-end. Proof that it really doesn't have to cost you an arm and a leg to get a good running, sounding Ranger. Sorry Dan for jumping in!
