This is being sold by a dealer in Pennsylvania. They claim to have a truck here with 29K original miles. It is a base model with few options. 4 cyl, 5-speed.

What should I look for in deciding if this is a good truck? I will get a Carfax when I get the vin.

What make of tires came on this truck originally? The 4 tires should match and have appropriate tread remaining.

Is there any way I can find out about warranty service work that has been done? How about recalls?

Thanks guys!

The selling dealer should be able to provide a complete history of warranty work done, any service work done at their shop. If it's at a Ford dealer any recalls are to be done before the vehicle is sold, that is by federal law. They can be fined heavily for not doing that. If they won't get you that information get me the VIN and I will.

Hard to say which tires were on it, Rangers came stock with several kinds of tires in a few sizes. The build sheet may tell you that, it might not. Sometimes they give a brand and model, sometimes just a size. It's also possible the tires have been replaced already.

I would ask to see the service record from the used car check. If possible look at the technician's copy of the RO, not the closed computer copy. Sometime not all the tech notes make it to the computer.

Just out of curiosity, what is the name of the dealership? I am only asking because we happen to have a vehicle on the lot right now that roughly matches that description.

thanks!

Unknown dealer at this time. It's on Craigslist. It is a small, independent dealer, I think. But in the picture, it looks like it could be in the rear of a large dealer. I would wonder why such a good vehicle was being sold other than as a first line vehicle?

Could you try this VIN? 1FTYR10D57PA51965

Turns out that that '09 had lots of rust on a lower cross member in front of the radiator. I think the radiator mounts to it. You can see it when the hood is opened. Its in front of the hood latch, but at the bottom of the radiator. Is this common? The truck lived in NJ. I passed on that truck.

I actually bought this '07 ranger, that corresponds to the VIN above, the next day. It also has some rust on that same cross member. I'm going to strip it to bare metal and POR 15 it, then paint it Oxford white again. This truck also has a bit of rust I missed on the tailgate. It's when you let it down. You can see it in a seam on the tailgate, at the base of the tailgate, in the gap between the bed and tailgate. I'm not happy with this.

I'm curious about any accidents. Carfax said no accidents, but one side of the bed was repainted. I got it for a good price, I believe. Runs great, 119K miles...

Thx!

Pictures of rust on a 2009 Ranger

Very disappointing. the rust on the 2007 I actually bought is in the same area, but it is only beginning, and is on the seam. Does your late Ranger have this rust?
